Restarts in Japan have contributed to rise, says the Paris-based agency
Nuclear energy’s share of gross electricity production in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 2018 saw a modest increase of 1.1% to 17.7%, according to provisional data from the International Energy Agency.Total gross electricity production in the 36 member countries was 11,173 TWh, also an increase of 1.1% over 2017.Variations in weather conditions and the recommencement of electricity production at some nuclear power plants in Japan contributed to increases from nuclear (1.1%) and hydro plants (+1.6%), while wind (+7%) and solar (+19.8%) showed robust growth.
