Italy is planning to draft rules by early 2025 to allow the deployment of new nuclear reactor technologies, the energy minister said, signalling a potential reversal of the country’s post-Chernobyl ban on commercial nuclear power production.
Energy minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin said on the sidelines of a business forum at Lake Como that by the end of the year the ministry’s legal adviser Giovanni Guzzetta and his team “will produce a comprehensive analysis on nuclear, and what kind of laws we need to introduce”.
He added he hoped parliament would be able to approve the draft legislation in the course of 2025.
