Spain’s feet of seven commercial nuclear power plants generated 22.18% of the country’s electricity in 2020, making nuclear the primary source of production.

Madrid-based nuclear group Foro Nuclear said data from the Spanish electricity network REE shows that nuclear has been the primary source of production for 10 consecutive years. Nuclear plants have operated the most hours and avoided the most emissions. According to Foro Nuclear, the Spanish nuclear park operated on average 89.81% of the time in 2020.

Nuclear power plants produced 55.7 TWh (net) of electricity, a slight decline on 55.8 TWh net in 2019, but an increase of 0.77% to 22.18% over the 2019 production share. The nuclear fleet has 7,117 MW of net installed capacity, representing 6.49% of the country’s total.
