In 2021, 13 EU member states were operating 106 nuclear reactors.
Thirteen EU member states with commercial nuclear power plants generated 731,701 GWh of nuclear electricity, an increase of seven percent compared with 48,189 GWh in 2020 and accounting for over 25% of the bloc’s total electricity production, according to figures released by Eurostat on 21 December.

Eurostat, which provides statistical information to the institutions of the EU, said the largest producer of nuclear power in the bloc in 2021 was France with 52% of the EU total nuclear energy production at 379,361 GWh.

France was followed by Germany (9%; 69,130 GWh), Spain (8%; 56,564 GWh), Sweden (7%; 52,965 GWh) and Belgium (7%; 50,326 GWh).
