The UK’s Environment Agency has begun a four-week public consultation on NNB Generation Company (HPC) Limited’s plans to store used nuclear fuel at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in a dry storage facility rather than a wet facility as originally planned.
NNB GenCo was originally issued an environmental permit for the receipt and disposal of radioactive waste at Hinkley Point C in March 2013. In the original design, used nuclear fuel was to be stored onsite in wet storage.
The fuel will be stored onsite before being sent to a geological disposal facility, a site for which has not yet been chosen.
