Netherlands-based nuclear services provider NRG Pallas has begun the second phase of graphite research for Kairos Power and is collaborating with the US advanced nuclear plant developer on test programmes for Triso fuel and metal components.

The research is being carried out at NRG Pallas’s High Flux Reactor (HFR) in Petten, Netherlands. NRG Pallas said the work is crucial for the safety and lifespan of innovative reactors.

Kairos Power is developing a compact, modular advanced nuclear reactor that operates at high temperatures and is cooled by molten salt. In addition to producing CO2-free electricity, the plant can also supply industrial heat.
