The origin of a technical failure that prevented the startup of the high-flux research reactor (HFR) at Petten in the Netherlands has been identified.

NRG, which operates the HFR on behalf of European Union’s Joint Research Centre, said on 8 February that the root cause analysis has been performed and will be submitted to the Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ANVS).

“The project team is progressing well and a solution for restoring functionality has been chosen,” NRG said “The plan… is being prepared and will be submitted to ANVS. After approval of the plan by ANVS, the chosen solution will be implemented, restoring full functionality to the system.”
