Target is for a 20-22% share of generation, but that is due to be reviewed
Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) has so far approved 16 commercial nuclear power reactors and is reviewing a further nine for compatibility with new regulatory standards, but it is unclear whether or not any of them will restart in the coming months, the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum said.Nine reactors have resumed operation since the new standards were introduced following the March 2011 Fukushima-Daiichi accident. Seven reactors have passed regulatory review but have not yet restarted.Eight have not yet applied to be assessed. The total number of units with licences to operate or potentially operate is 33 (16 approved, nine under review, eight not yet applied).
