The European nuclear technology developer newcleo has signed a memorandum of understanding with Viaro Energy, an independent upstream energy company based in London, to jointly pursue the deployment of newcleo advanced modular reactor (AMR) technology to help decarbonise the oil and gas sectors, the companies said in a joint statement on 5 March.

“Our technology means that, for the first time, nuclear reactors will provide decentralised, baseload, low-carbon energy to customers with enhanced safety and security of supply”, Stefano Buono, the newcleo chairman and chief executive officer, said in the statement.

He added: “Viaro’s pragmatic and forward-looking approach will help them to blaze a trail towards lower-carbon operations in the oil and gas sector and we are delighted to be partnering with them and to provide energy solutions to make their aims a reality.”
