France-based advanced modular reactor technology and nuclear fuel company Newcleo said the French Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority (ASNR) has concluded that the safety options proposed by the company for its planned mixed oxide (MOX) fuel fabrication plant project in France are satisfactory.

The company said this milestone enables it to continue preparing its upcoming regulatory applications while incorporating the recommendations issued by the ASNR into the development and planning of its projects.

Newcleo is also progressing through a similar regulatory process for its LFR-AS-200 lead-cooled fast reactor (LFR) design and is awaiting the opinion of the ASNR on its proposed safety features. In parallel, newcleo is carrying out a three-month public debate on its proposed French LFR and MOX fuel facility projects.
