Extensive inspections have resulted in the replacement of seals in 108 connectors for temperature measurements at the Olkiluoto-3 nuclear power plant in Finland which began commercial operation on 1 May.
Plant owner and operator Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) said in a statement on Monday (15 May) that 108 connectors were inspected and missing seals were detected in 29 of them. “All the inspected connectors have now been provided with new seals,” the company said.
TVO said the connectors with missing seals would work under normal operating conditions, but do not necessarily fulfil the requirements specified for accident conditions and their operability could not be guaranteed in loss of coolant accidents.
