The Belarusian ministry of emergency situations has given the green light for commercial operation of Unit 1 of the Belarusian nuclear power station, based on an assessment by nuclear regulator Gosatomnadzor.

Gosatomnadzor said in a statement that the ministry issued an amendment to the station’s existing licence allowing the operator to proceed towards commercial operation of the 1,110-MW pressurised water reactor unit.

There has been no official confirmation of an actual date for Belarusian-1 to begin commercial operation.

Belarusian-1 was connected to the grid on 3 November 2020 and reached 100% of its rated power in January 2021.
