The US The Department of Energy (DOE) has officially committed funding to establish Unity-3, a world-class fusion breeding blanket test facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), with Japanese fusion energy company Kyoto Fusioneering relocating its US headquarters to Tennessee to help build and operate it.

The facility is part of the recent public-private partnership established between DOE, ORNL and Kyoto Fusioneering to build critical fusion infrastructure required for commercial fusion energy.

The Japanese fusion technology developer will create 50-plus new jobs and invest $47m (€40m) in Oak Ridge, a statement said. It will receive grant from a federal nuclear energy fund.
