US advanced reactor developer Kairos Power has completed a hardware demonstration at its non-nuclear engineering test unit 3 (ETU3) platform at Oak Ridge.

The California-based company said the demonstration will aim to inform the development of its first Hermes 2 commercial reactor.

The ETU3 platform is designed to help Kairos lower risk in its reactor construction, operations and maintenance and help towards deployment of a commercial fleet.

Earlier this year Kairos broke ground on its Hermes 2 demonstration plant, which it says will be the first fluoride salt-cooled high-temperature reactors (KP-FHRs) ever built.
