Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom and Indonesia’s state-owned PT Pembangkit Listrik Nuklir have signed an agreement to supply electricity to consumers in northern Indonesia using floating nuclear power plants.

The parties signed the agreement on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week forum in Moscow. Rosatom said the agreement marks “a significant milestone” in bilateral energy cooperation between Russia and Indonesia.

Under the agreement Rosatom will supply two floating nuclear power units with a total capacity of 200 MW to power the northern island of Halmaheraw in the North Maluku region of the southeast Asian nation, a sprawling archipelago of more than 13,000 islands.
