Nuclear jobs growth leapt in 2024 and will continue to rise under all of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) economic growth forecasts, despite headwinds surrounding skilled workers, according to the Paris-based institution’s World Energy Employment 2025 report.
The report showed jobs in the nuclear industry totalled 1.2 million in 2024, an increase of 6% from 2023. That compared to employment growth for the energy sector of 2.2%, or 4% growth in the power sector. Economy-wide employment growth in 2024 was 1.3%.
The energy sector encompasses the production, refining and delivery of all forms of energy. The power sector refers to the large-scale generation, transmission and distribution of electricity to homes and businesses.
The employment report also showed investment growth in nuclear of 6% year-on-year in 2024, and an increase of 50% over the past five years, largely driven by China.
