The average capacity factor of Japan’s nuclear power plants in fiscal year 2025 reached 33.6%, while total electricity generation was to 97.2 TWh, according to data obtained by Nuclear Industry Journal, the official media outlet of the Tokyo-based Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF).
Jaif said the figures represented increases of 1.3 percentage points and 4%, respectively, compared with the previous fiscal year.
Both figures marked the highest levels recorded since FY2015, when Japan’s new regulatory standards came into effect following the 2011 Fukushima-Daiichi accident.
Japan has 15 reactor units in commercial operation, while its potential complete fleet has 33 units including 18 units where operations are suspended pending post-Fukushima restart approvals.
