An international coalition of nuclear industry and professional organisations has called on the Cop31 climate summit presidency to include nuclear energy in its implementation and financing plans, ahead of the summit in Turkey later this month.
Nuclear for Climate (N4C), an initiative of nuclear professionals, engineers and scientists established in 2015 by more than 150 associations worldwide, said that existing political recognition must be followed by concrete measures to support projects.
N4C said 41 organisations representing more than 100,000 nuclear professionals and other stakeholders had signed the letter to Cop31 president-designate Murat Kurum, Turkey’s minister of environment, urbanisation and climate change.
The letter outlines three main requests covering nuclear power’s role in clean electricity production, access to climate finance and industrial decarbonisation.
