France’s nuclear industry is calling for a decision to be taken in 2021 on plans to build six new EPR 2 units so it can begin preparations and invest in skills.

Valerie Faudon, head of the French Nuclear Energy Society (SFEN), told a webinar organised by Brussels-based industry association Foratom, that now that the Flamanville-3 EPR in Normandy is close to completion, the industry is waiting for an announcement and confirmation of future plans.

She said the national plan being discussed by the government includes plans for six new EPR units to be completed within 20 years at a cost of €46bn. “Preparations are under way, but the industry needs a decision,” she said.
