The Pre-Operational Safety Review Team (Pre-Osart) team, which concluded an 18-day mission to the plant on 5 December, identified a number of areas where further improvements can be made.
The team said operators should “fully develop and implement an integrated and strategic approach to support safe commissioning of the plant”.
It said plant managers and supervisors should always ensure the safety of personnel and equipment by fostering appropriate behaviour and conditions, such as when staff are working at height.
Slovakia is building two 440-MW Russia-supplied VVER units at Mochovche, about 100 km east of the capital Bratislava. According to the IAEA Unit 3 is expected to be connected to the electrical grid next year.
The owner and operator of the station, which also has two 436-MW VVER units in commercial operation, is state utility Slovenské Elektrárne.
Osart missions aim to improve operational safety by assessing operator and plant performance using the IAEA’s safety standards.
