A Japanese high court has rejected local residents’ call to halt the operation of the Ikata-3 nuclear power reactor in Ehime Prefecture, southwest Japan, upholding a lower court decision.
The ruling by the Hiroshima High Court will allow Shikoku Electric Power Company to continue operating the 846-MW pressurised water reactor unit, which is offline for a regular inspection until mid-June.
The appeal was filed by seven residents of Hiroshima and Ehime prefectures who live between 60 km and 130 km from the reactor.
