Rachel Glaving, the commercial director of EDF Energy’s nuclear operations, noted that an existing nuclear station at Hartlepool, which has two advanced gas-cooled reactors with a combined net capacity of 1,185 MW, had “operated for over 40 years, but these plants have to be decommissioned”.
However, the site and immediate surrounding area were very good for new nuclear because the site had a nuclear site licence and there is an industrial cluster planned in the nearby Teesside area, according to Glaving.
