Renewables will not be enough to compensate, says RTE
The addition of new renewable energy from 2022 to 2023 will not be enough to compensate for closures of power plants, especially if the Flamanville-3 EPR under construction in Normandy is not commissioned on schedule, national electricity transmission operator RTE said.In its latest energy supply forecast RTE said vigilance will be needed on security of supply because of the closure of the last of the country’s coal plants, which the government wants to phase out by 2022 as part of its efforts to meet emissions targets. In addition, the nuclear fleet will see a number of scheduled decennial inspections, which could limit availability.
