The German state of Hesse has formed a nuclear fusion industry consortium as part of efforts to position the region as a hub for development and deployment of new reactor technologies.
Leaders from government, industry and science announced the consortium and plans to advance fusion energy innovation in the region at a meeting hosted by the state government led by president Boris Rhein.
Participants included Technische Universität Darmstadt, the European Investment Bank, utility RWE Power, decommissioning company RWE Nuclear, Siemens Energy, the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, German advanced materials company Schott, German technology group Heraeus and Focused Energy, a spinoff from Technische Universität Darmstadt which is developing laser fusion technology.
