Company says it wants first plant in operation in late 2020s
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission have chosen Terrestrial Energy’s Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) for the first joint technical review of an advanced, non-light-water nuclear reactor technology. The selection of the small modular IMSR design for joint technical review follows an August 2019 memorandum of cooperation between the CNSC and the NRC that expands the agencies’ cooperation on activities associated with advanced reactor and SMR technologies. The collaborative technical reviews are intended to increase regulatory effectiveness for the review of new nuclear technologies.
