Fusion Research Investment Boosts Economy By £1.4Bn In A Decade, Study Finds
The UK economy has gained £1.4bn (€1.57bn, $1.87) worth over a decade from public investment in the national fusion energy programme and an average of 4,000 jobs each year, a new study shows.

The study, published by the Department for Business, Energy and Industry Strategy (BEIS) found that for every £1 invested in in the UK Atomic Energy Authority’s (UKAEA) fusion research from 2009 to 2019, approximately £4 is pumped back into the economy.

According to the study, allocated funding for fusion over the 10-year period of £346.7m resulted in a direct gain of £1.4bn for the UK economy and the direct and indirect creation of 36,900 “job years”, equivalent to the creation of 4,000 jobs on average annually.
