Estonia-based nuclear development company Fermi Energia has submitted an application to begin a state planning process for a 600 MW nuclear power station, with the start of construction scheduled for 2031, potentially at one of two sites in the north of the country.
The company called the move “a significant step forward” in Estonia’s energy infrastructure development. It said the application was submitted to the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.
Fermi Energia chief executive officer Kalev Kallemets said the process, known as a state spatial plan, is essential for identifying the best location for a nuclear plant.
“While initiating this planning process doesn’t guarantee construction, it establishes the foundation for future decision-making,” Kallemets said.
