Finnish nuclear energy consortium Fennovoima has terminated its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC contract) with Russia’s Raos Project citing “significant delays”, the company’s “inability to deliver the project” and worsening risks as a result of the war in Ukraine.

“There have been significant and growing delays during the last years,” Fennovoima said in a statement. “The war in Ukraine has worsened the risks for the project. Raos has been unable to mitigate any of the risks.”

Fennovoima said this means that cooperation with Raos Project, the plant supplier and a subsidiary of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, has ended “with immediate effect”. Design and licensing work and work with Raos project at the Hanhikivi-1 site in northern Finland have ended.
