Energoatom said Unit 5 was powered down and taken off the grid last night, while Unit 6 followed this morning. The remaining four reactor units at Zaporozhye remain fully operational.
The company said Ukraine’s three other nuclear power stations Khmelnitski, Rovno, South Ukraine, hosting together nine commercial reactors, are operating normally, with stable electricity generation and according to approved schedules.
There have been no territorial violations around any of the nuclear sites, or conditions jeopardising the safe operation of Ukraine’s reactor fleet, said Energoatom.
However, Energoatom said it decided to shut down Zaporozhye-5 and -6 to establish “limits of operational safety.”
Ukraine’s reactor fleet provides about half of the country’s electricity.
