EDF’s bid to build a new nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic is based on France’s Generation III+ EPR1200 reactor technology, a smaller, adapted version of the company’s flagship Generation III EPR plant that has already been used for a number of new-build projects.

EDF was one of three companies that made initial bids to build a new reactor unit at Dukovany, majority state-owned Czech utility ČEZ said this week. The others were South Korea’s Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) and US-based group Westinghouse Electric.

EDF said its offer was for the supply of engineering, procurement, construction and industrial commissioning services for one EPR1200 reactor for the Dukovany site and for the supply of fuel assemblies.
