The “sky is the limit” for the United Arab Emirates’ nuclear energy industry with the country engaged in discussions related to “futuristic reactors” including SMRs and considering the use of clean hydrogen generated by reactors, Mohamed Al Hammadi, managing director and chief executive officer of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec), told the World Government Summit in Dubai.

Mr Al Hammadi said the UAE has developed its civilian nuclear power programme from scratch in a decade and has a young workforce educated in the US and South Korea that can serve the industry in the long-term.
