An engineering services contract for two new AP1000 nuclear power plants at Kozloduy in Bulgaria has been extended by 14 months as work continues on project preparations as Sofia takes steps to avoid any budget or construction overrun, Bulgaria’s energy ministry has confirmed.
The contract was signed in November 2024 by US nuclear plant supplier Westinghouse, South Korean construction company Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Bulgaria’s Kozloduy NPP - New Build, the state company established by Sofia to oversee the project.
Reports said the extension would allow further analysis of the technical and economic parameters for the construction of two AP1000s, their price, the value of the electricity they produce and construction schedules.
