The lower house of the Philippine Congress has created a special committee to look into the possibility of introducing commercial nuclear energy to the Southeast Asian nation.
The government’s Philippine News Agency (PNA) said the motion to create the committee was put forward by senior deputy majority leader Sandro Marcos, the son of Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos.
The president said recently that “this is the right time” to reexamine the country’s approach and policy towards using nuclear energy, noting that with modern technology, safeguards have been placed against possible accidents.
