Company’s Voygr Reactor Design Becomes First SMR To Get Certification In US
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has formally approved NuScale Power’s Voygr small modular reactor design, making it the first SMR design to be certified by the NRC and just the seventh reactor design cleared for use in the US

The NRC said it had issued its final rule in the Federal Register to certify NuScale’s SMR.

The rule takes effect on 21 February 2023 and “equips the nation with a new clean power source to help drive down emissions across the country”, the US Department of Energy said.

The published final rule making allows utilities to reference US-based NuScale’s SMR design when applying for a combined licence to build and operate a reactor.
