State companies Nucleoeléctrica Argentina and China National Nuclear Corporation have signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for construction of a China-supplied HPR1000 nuclear power plant at what will become the Atucha III nuclear power station.

Neither company said how much the contract was worth, but press reports have put the total cost of the planned unit at $8.3bn. Construction is penciled in to start by the end of the year.
