Czech state-controlled utility ČEZ has notified the country’s environment ministry of a proposed location for a third nuclear power station, at Tušimice in North Bohemia in the north of the country.

A set of documents submitted to an official governmental portal indicate the move is a first step in the process of obtaining an environmental impact assessment for the proposed location.

According to earlier reports, Tušimice was already one of the locations considered by ČEZ for the potential deployment of Rolls-Royce’s 470-MW small modular reactor (SMR) plants. With the submission of plans to the environment ministry this has now been confirmed.

The first location is the existing Temelín nuclear site, with proposed deployment earmarked for the early 2030s.
