Candu Energy is entering into a project with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), to develop a plan for a pre-licensing design review of the new Candu Monark reactor’s suitability to be licensed and built in Canada.
The Montreal-based company, a subsidiary of AtkinsRéalis and original equipment manufacturer of Canada’s Candu nuclear power plant technology, said the project marks an important milestone since the Candu Monark reactor’s launch in November 2023.
The aim is to familiarise CNSC staff with the Candu Monark design and allow them to provide feedback on what will be needed in a future pre-licensing design review.
