Bulgaria is planning to move the Kozloduy Units 7 and 8 nuclear new build project into the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) phase in 2027, according to project developer Kozloduy NPP-New Builds.

An EPC contract covers detailed design, equipment procurement and onsite construction, representing the stage at which a nuclear project moves from development into execution.

In a media briefing recently, a US-based Westinghouse official said a proposed 14-month extension of a 2024 engineering services contract (ESC) for two AP1000 units at Kozloduy would provide additional time to complete site-specific design work, support licensing activities and refine project costs and schedules ahead of a final investment decision.
