TerraPower, the US advanced nuclear power plant developer backed by Bill Gates, has welcomed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) decision to shorten the construction permit application review for its first Natrium nuclear plant from 26 months to 19 months.

TerraPower said the anticipated date for the final environmental impact statement (EIS) and safety evaluation for the construction permit application for the planned Kemmerer Unit 1 nuclear plant in Wyoming is now 31 December 2025.

“President Trump’s executive orders signed in May 2025 support the streamlining of regulatory reviews to safely deploy advanced nuclear energy in the United States,” TerraPower said in a statement.
