The UK Environment Agency’s new reactors assessment team held over 300 meetings with China General Nuclear Group (CGN), the designer of China’s indigenous Hualong One nuclear power plant, on topics including environmental issues and project governance.

During the five-year generic design assessment (GDA) process, which began in 2017, the agency received over 2,600 submissions from the designer, of which around 300 were relevant to environmental aspects of the design.

Regulators raised 1,774 regulatory queries where CGN was asked for clarification and additional information about the design.
