13 Dec (NucNet): Areva of France, in a consortium with Siemens, has signed a contract with the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and the China General Nuclear Power Corporation to supply the instrumentation and control (I&C) systems for two planned units at China’s Fuqing nuclear power station, Areva said in a statement.
The two planned reactors, Fuqing-5 and -6, will be equipped with Areva’s TelepermXS digital safety I&C system. Areva said the system is already licenced in China and has been supplied to nine reactors in the country.
China Nuclear Power Engineering, a subsidiary of CNNC, plans to begin construction of Unit 5 in 2014 and of Unit 6 in 2015.
Areva and CNNC also signed a letter of intent to study the creation of a joint venture for a zirconium alloy fabrication and conversion facility in China. The material is used in nuclear fuel assembly production.
