Amazon signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy on 30 September to support the expansion of the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power station in the US, in a deal that will enable more than $3bn (€2.6bn) in infrastructure investment at the site.
Under the agreement, the online retail and web services giant will receive 690 MW of power from Calvert Cliffs, which according to International Atomic Energy Agency data has two pressurised water reactor units of 877 MW and 855 MW.
Constellation said the $3bn in investment will include improvements across the entire Calvert Cliffs plant and approximately 190 MW in total of new generating capacity coming online between 2030 and 2032.
