Construction of domestic Hualong One unit began in June 2025
Workers have installed the fifth ring of the inner steel containment for the Taipingling-3 Hualong One nuclear power plant under construction in China’s southern province of Guangdong, according to the China Institute of Nuclear Information and Economics (CINIE).
CINIE quoted China General Nuclear (CGN) as saying that the auxiliary electrical and instrumentation cable trays were installed at the same time as the steel lining module.
CGN said traditional construction of the module follows a sequence of structural work first, then installation and later commissioning. For Taipingling-3, the project team used an integrated method combining prefabrication, installation and lifting.
The company said all cable tray supports were prefabricated, leaving only cable tray connections and support welding to be completed on site.
According to CGN, onsite electrical and instrumentation labour was reduced from 210 man-days to 70 man-days.
Construction of Taipingling-3, a domestic Hualong One pressurised water reactor (PWR) unit began in June 2025 with the pouring of first concrete for the unit’s nuclear island.
The Taipingling station will have six domestically developed Hualong One units built in phases, earlier reports have said.
Taipingling-1 and -2 are commercially operational, while construction of Taipingling-4 began in May 2026.
Hualong One is now China’s flagship reactor technology comprising about half of all reactor new-build projects in the country.
According to International Atomic Energy Agency data, China has 60 commercial nuclear plants in operation and 37 under construction.
