US-based Westinghouse Electric Company has signed the engineering services contract for two new AP1000 nuclear power plants to be built at the Kozloduy site on the Danube River in northwest Bulgaria.
The company said in a statement on 4 November that the contract was signed with South Korean construction company Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Bulgaria’s Kozloduy NPP - New Build, the state company established by Sofia to oversee the project.
The contract scope includes site planning for two Westinghouse AP1000 units and support for Kozloduy NPP - New Build to begin licensing and permitting, while providing critical project planning and operations & maintenance development. The work outlined in the 12-month contract will begin immediately, Westinghouse said.
