The state of West Virginia has withdrawn from a federal nuclear power initiative to establish nuclear Iifecycle innovation campuses, which are meant in part to host long-term waste disposal sites.
The administration of West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey, a Republican, said in a statement: “President Trump and secretary Wright are working to restore American energy dominance, and the Governor is proud to stand with them as we build the nuclear industry America needs. West Virginia is ready to help lead America’s nuclear renaissance.
“We want the power generation, manufacturing, investment, and jobs that come with it, but we are not prepared to proceed with the Host Agreement for the Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campus at this time.”
