The Utah Office of Energy Development (OED) has signed an agreement with TerraPower, the nuclear company founded by Bill Gates, and landowner and developer Flagship Companies to explore the potential siting of a nuclear plant in Utah.

The OED, Utah’s primary energy policy and development agency, said the agreement establishes a non-binding framework for cooperation among the three parties to potentially deploy a TerraPower Natrium reactor and energy storage plant.

It also supports Utah governor Spencer Cox’s Operation Gigawatt, an initiative to double Utah’s power production over the next 10 years.
