A nuclear industry virtual assistant has been made available across the North American commercial nuclear fleet, moving AI in the nuclear sector from pilot testing into everyday operational use.

Niva, the Nuclear Industry Virtual Assistant, was developed as a collaboration with the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (Inpo), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) industry lobby group. It is the first AI platform of its kind open to the commercial nuclear plants that belong to these organisations.

Niva runs on technology built by US-based Atomic Canyon, which develops AI tools for the nuclear industry.
