NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes used its electron accelerator technology to produce the first batch of molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) without using high-enriched uranium at its production facility in the US state of Wisconsin.
NorthStar said in a statement that output from the newly validated method, which uses the company’s proprietary electron accelerator technology, will augment rather than replace the company’s work with a research reactor at the University of Missouri. That collaboration has been producing Mo-99 for some time.
