The Doel-3 nuclear power plant in Belgium is scheduled to stop operating on Friday (23 September) in line with the government’s nuclear phaseout law, but press reports claim the prime minister has been negotiating options for mothballing and possible later restarts.
According to the Belgian Nuclear Society, the 1,006 MW plant is scheduled to go offline at 21:00 on Friday.
But the society told NucNet there have been unconfirmed reports that prime minister Alexander De Croo wants to keep open the option of a possible restart.
The society said it could not confirm the rumours, which have been reported this week in the Belgian press.
