Test production at the Olkiluoto-3 nuclear power plant in Finland has been interrupted for more than a month causing a further delay in the start of regular electricity production at the EPR unit.
Plant owner and operator Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) said plant supplier Areva-Siemens has said regular electricity production – or commercial operation – is now scheduled for December 2022, a delay of about three months from September 2022. Test electricity production at the plant began in March.
TVO said test production had been interrupted by “foreign material issues” in the turbine’s steam reheater. In May, foreign material detached from the steam guide plates was found in the turbine’s steam reheater, which needs inspection and repair work, likely to last until the end of July.
